Is bigger better? An Archive of Scale (Spezielle Gebiete der Digitalen Medien (MW))
Kurs Nr.: DM.B-MA-2 (MW)
Semester: WS 2021/22
Scalability might sound like an advanced ability in the present. In our digital era, scaling is practically working with clicks or with a finger tap. However, many evidences show that scalability is far from being innocent. As buildings grow higher while representing a civilization adjacently the supposed nature is shrinking. The effects of Anthropocene are visible than ever.
In this course, we are going to examine different perspectives on scale and its usage. Landscape, cartography, artistic practices, colonial history include some examples which take part in the archive of scale. We are going to look into artistic positions and their relations to scale and in the meantime, we will read texts which deal with scale and its problems.
Since this course aims to understand the relation between theory and practice, we will experiment with diverse artistic methods to find out hidden materials which has not been mentioned in an archive of scale.
We are going to formulate questions and try to answer those through artistic doing.
