More about the department
The University of the Arts Bremen offers its students individual and professional tuition programmes in a warm, open, and creative atmosphere. The Faculty of Music provides a state-of-the-art learning environment across all of its programmes and is supported in its efforts by the Academy for Early Music, the Studio for New Music, our Church Music programme (located in the heart of an important historical centre for European organ music), and a vibrant Jazz department along with our Music Education and Musicology programmes. This rich resource base is further enhanced by the close cooperative ties established by the University of the Arts to a host of cultural institutions in Bremen, including the Philharmonic Orchestra, Theater Bremen, St. Peter's Cathedral, various parishes, the University of Bremen and a number of general schools.
Located in Bremen's city centre since 1991, the Faculty of Music is just a short walk from the town hall and Bremen's Roland statue. The Faculty occupies a listed building, which has been lovingly restored and equipped to meet the requirements of a modern music university. Facilities include: a concert hall, chamber music hall, recording studio, electronic studio, jazz studio, modern practice rooms, a canteen, and spacious ensemble and class rooms.
The Faculty of Music is an important element in Bremen's vibrant cultural life, and its opera projects and numerous public concerts regularly attract large audiences. A range of orchestral projects, diploma concerts, class performances, solo recital evenings, and organ and choir concerts held each year provide students and teaching staff with plenty of opportunities to gather stage experience and add to the city's burgeoning music scene.
Our Young Students programme warmly welcomes talented and ambitious school pupils keen to develop their skills while they complete their secondary schooling.
