Alumni/ae network

Annual alumni/ae meetings

Every year the HfK Bremen invites its alumni/ae to a joint meeting. In a different setting every year, alumni/ae and teachers from different fields of study and classes come together to meet, get to know each other and exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.
In addition, every year we present an alumnus or alumna and their work.

The alumni/ae meeting 2022 will probably take place again as part of the Hochschultage 2022.

Alumni/ae Meeting 2020

As part of the Hochschultage 2020, the third alumni/ae meeting of the University of the Arts Bremen took place on Sunday, February 9th at Speicher XI. Alumnus Ben Jurca and Regine Okoro, who coordinate the HfK alumni/ae network, had invited to this event. The event was supported by the "Freundes- und Förderkreis der HfK Bremen".

Ben Jurca welcomed the numerous alumni/ae and gave a short introduction to the program and the course of the meeting. This was followed by a welcoming address by Prof. Roland Lambrette, rector of the University of the Arts Bremen. In addition to numerous encounters, lively conversations and a delicious breakfast, the lecture by alumnus Jörg Brüggemann provided an contentful impulse. In a concentrated lecture, Brüggemann provided insights into his work and the projects after his graduation at the HfK Bremen twelve years ago. The award-winning photographer, member of the "Ostkreuz" photography agency, regularly participates in exhibitions, works for major national and international magazines and cultural institutions and teaches at the "Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie" in Berlin.

Furthermore, the sound installation "Im Schotter stehen, aber mit Bällen werfen" by alumnus Janis E. Müller could be seen during the Hochschultage. The artist completed his studies of Fine Arts at the HfK and currently lives and works in Bremen. Müller is involved in international exhibitions, works as a sound designer, musician, producer, DJ, videographer and workshop leader in various projects with young adults.

This year's alumni/ae meeting once again offered the opportunity to discover the diversity of current ideas, projects and works of the students in three tours with different thematic focuses: Prof. Ingo Vetter led the tour through the Liberal Arts, Prof. Oliver Niewiadomski was responsible for the tour through Integrated Design and Prof. Ralf Baecker gave insights into the works from Digital Media.

This year's alumni/ae meeting and the Hochschultage 2020 were a great success and met with consistently positive feedback. "Every year I find visiting the annual exhibition a highlight and a source of inspiration. Since last year, the integrated alumni/ae meeting as a point of impact tops these annual visits." (quote alumna). The positive feedback was also reflected in the numerous new registrations for the alumni/ae network as well as for the circle of friends.

There will also be an alumni/ae meeting next year as part of the University Days 2021, followed by a guided tour of the Speicher. In the course of the Hochschultage 2019, the "Alumni/ae Meeting #2" took place on Sunday, 10 February 2019, in Speicher XI. The invitation was extended by alumnus Ben Jurca, who has been working for some time on the active creation and expansion of the HfK alumni/ae network, and the Friends and Sponsors of the HfK Bremen.
David Bartusch, First Chair of the Friends and Sponsors of the HfK Bremen, and Tevhide Mutlu, Second Chair, welcomed the numerous alumni/ae to the informal get-together in the form of a joint breakfast.

Rector Roland Lambrette then gave a welcome address and pointed out the successes of the HfK last year, including the award as the most creative German university in the ADC ranking and the appointment of HfK professor Natascha Sadr Haghighian as the featured artist of the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (HfK Venice Dossier). He once again explicitly pointed out the importance of further cooperation between alumni and their alma mater and expressed the wish of the entire HfK Bremen to further deepen this in the coming months and years.
Afterwards, the Dean of the Department of Art and Design, Ingo Vetter, led a tour through the four floors of Speicher XI and introduced the numerous interested alumni/ae to the exhibited works and projects of the students of Liberal Arts, Integrated Design and Digital Media.

For the alumni/ae work, the university days and the meeting turned out to be a great success: there were numerous new registrations for the alumni/ae network as well as for the circle of friends. A joint breakfast and informal exchange are to become a fixed item on the programme of the university days in the coming years. The same applies to the subsequent guided tour of the warehouse.

HfK alumnus Ben Jurca has been building up the new alumni/ae network for some time now, which can be reached at alumni@hfk-bremen.de. The purpose of the network is to communicate with alumni and friends. Its purpose is to maintain close and lively contact with former students and professors.
