Container Village

The Container Village has been created on the trackbed along Speicher XI – between Section 8 and the Wetterhalle. The metal cuboids placed there were acquired by the HfK as playable readymades, architecturally arranged and technically prepared. Stacked and lined up, they form sculptural elements  and create a space-creating counterpart to the HfK. Aesthetically appealing and practical at  the same time. Framed in this way, the potential of the area between Speicher XI and the trackbed can now be activated by the HfK. A garden initiative is taking care of greening, other students are showing art and usable seating designs.

The Chaos Office – one of the blue containers opposite Speicher XI – can be booked by all students via the AStA-website. In addition to freely accessible sofas, armchairs, benches and tables, high-end audio equipment is available here for borrowing externally or for a variety of projects and events after consultation with the cultural department of the AStA.

Flat tyre? The bicycle work-shop will help you out. With an air pump, tools and chain lube, you can get your bike back in order at the first  container in front of the main entrance. You can find the current opening times on the container or on Instagram.

In front of the HfK main entrance at Speicher XI 8, the first three sea containers are reserved for a bicycle workshop, rental station and e-bike charging facility. Two- and three-wheeled e-bikes can now be used free of charge by all HfK members for official (transport) journeys. Two of the e-bikes are available at the Container Village and two at the Dechanatstraße site. 

For bookings, please contact the respective porter’s lodge. An informal request (by telephone, email or in person on site) is sufficient. If a bike is available in the desired period, it can be reserved immediately or you can start cycling right away. Keys, on-board computer and load securing set are to be picked up at the gatehouse on the booked date. 

Passenger transport and private rides on the electric cargo bikes are not permitted. 

Attention: Before the first use, a one-time introduction to the use of an electric cargo bike is necessary.

Students as well as lecturers are invited to use the six office containers as individuals or groups free of charge. Equipment: table, chair, heating, internet, electricity, light. Five office containers can be booked for the entire winter or summer semester. Another one can be booked for a maximum of one month. The containers will be raffled at the beginning of each semester. 

In addition, a well-stocked tool set can be borrowed. The nine windowless, large sea containers may be used as workshops,  storage spaces as well as for experimentation – with colour and typography, but also through applications and modifications and evening projections.
