"books books books" is the title of an exhibition in the Cologne Art and Museum Library, where current and former students of the Stephan Baumkötter class from the Bremen University of the Arts (HfK) are exhibiting.
The Baumkötter class is a painting class and the artist's books on display in Cologne were created as part of the students' artistic work on their own work. The focus was therefore often less on the production of an artist's book and more on the connection with their own artistic working methods.
On display are works by Alice Gericke, Tobias Heine, Atsushi Mannami, Jana Thiel, Armin Wischkony, Florian Witt, Daniel Wrede and Linhan Yu.
Their exhibited works range from sculptural book objects (Mannami) to folded large sheets (Gericke), loose-leaf collections and card boxes (Heine, Thiel), from catalog-like books (Witt, Wrede, Yu) to a standard paperback book (Wischkony). The works were produced using a wide variety of printing techniques. Some are handmade and produced in very small editions, others industrially.
Also on display are works by students from the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle.
The exhibition "books books books books" runs until April 28, 2024.
Location: Art and Museum Library of the City of Cologne, Heinrich-Böll-Platz/Bischofsgartenstr. 1, Filmforum entrance.
Opening hours: Tuesdays to Thursdays, 10 am to 9 pm
