Founded in 2003, the Breda Photo Festival is the largest photo exhibition in the Benelux. It takes place every two years in the fall for a total of seven weeks. During this time, the Dutch city of Breda is transformed into an open-air gallery and a venue for other exhibitions, performances, installations and an extensive educational program for children and young people. This year's opening will be celebrated on September 13 and HfK student Max Grund, among others, will present a show of his works there.
Whether it is a psychological search for identity and a meaningful life or an intense physical journey in search of freedom and simple survival, the artists of the 2024 edition of Breda Photo will present travel stories as a metaphor for life-changing development. In addition to Rosângela Rennó, Tina Farifteh and Mounir Raji, the festival will feature dozens of other international photographers and artists, as well as ten young talents who took part in the Breda Photo International Talent Program. The young talents can be seen side by side with the established names in surprising locations in Breda. Together they will show a wide range of works, from documentary photography to interdisciplinary installations and video works.

The HfK Bremen took part in the Breda Photo International Talent Program for the first time. In the winter semester 2023/24, students at ten European universities worked on the festival theme "Journeys" and submitted their projects; 21 students from the HfK took part. Five photographers from each university were finally selected to present their projects. From the HfK Bremen, Professor Andrea Diefenbach was able to travel to the castle of the "Campus Narafi" in the heart of Brussels' Duden Park: Jürgen Berderow, Amina Falah, Annika Haskamp, Ana Manske and Max Grund. He was selected by a jury as a participant in the Breda Photo Festival 2024.
All five HfK participants submitted photo series. We would like to present one picture from each of them.
